FLINDERS SONG PROJECT

In 2025 Port Augusta Music Club collaborated with Arts Now Here Arts Association musicians to explore ways in which they can develop skills in songwriting and recording.

This project was made possible by the Australian Government Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee

The idea of this song came about one day looking after my grandson.
We were playing and I said "Gran needs a coffee."
In which I repeated the word several times in rhyme, "coffee, coffee, coffee."
This became the basis of the song.

I Am Who I Am

At first I thought “I’m not a song writer, I can’t do this!” I didn’t think there was anything in my everyday life that I feel strongly enough about or that particularly motivates me to write a song. Then I realised that that is exactly what my song could be. Its about knowing and accepting that you don’t have to be the greatest at this or the best at that. Be a good human being, enjoy each day of your life and know that you are who you are and that’s OK!

Life After Work

My song is about a black and tan kelpie we rescued from certain death, he couldn’t work anymore because of possible injury and was left on a chain for unimaginable lengths of time. We brought him home and gave him the life he deserved- this was his life after work. His name was Buck and he was tens years old when we rescued him.His life after work was being a doting family man loved by us all.

Submarine Collides With Banjo Fish

This is a song which actually came from discovering a submarine sound in Ableton. Then I created a groove and named it Submarine collides with a Banjo fish.

I asked Andrew, one of my music students, to Write some words to go with the music.

We collaborated and came up with this.

Actually I had a lot of fun writing this: an almost accidental, serenade to all those really good songs!

I was sitting in the car, waiting for Bob, thinking about this song we had to write: had to be catchy, had to be cool....

Then I thought Oh, this sounds like a rap, so doesn't need a tune , even better!

So 'It's a Rap' was born.
